Throughout my 15 years of existence, I have seen my parents go through a lot of problems, different levels, intensities and aspects. I’ve seen them struggle with their relationship with each other and with God. I have seen them struggle financially, wondering where to pull out a miraculously large amount of money to pay off debts to previous schools my brother and I attended. I have seen them argue from the smallest things to big things. I have seen how they almost gave up on each other when times got hard, yet here we are. The 20th year of their marriage, still standing and still going strong. They aren’t the best couple out there nor the best parents but I see them try to be the better version of themselves everyday - with God’s help, of course.
My mother - she has drastically changed, from being a nagging machine to a loving and understanding mother. My father, who was somehow too quiet to speak up, now leads the family and disciplines us to be the people that Christ wants us to be. A lot of things have changed, too many to enumerate but it was all for the better. Seeing all these made me realize that this day is what you deserve. You have worked so hard to provide for us, care for us, raise us, and love us. God is now rewarding you for the goodness you have modeled to us.
To my mom, who constantly asks for lives in the game Cooking Craze - and gets annoyed when I don’t send them, Story Time. (Warning: These stories happened when Christ wasn’t present in our lives.)
Do you remember the time when we would argue about the tiniest things? When you got so mad at me, you threw my things outside the door and told me not to study anymore (I was too slow in preparing to go to school). And how you would come home late from work and be cranky all day, and just burst out of annoyance? You weren’t around before as much as you are now, and for that I resented you. Well luckily, those bad days are over. I am in awe of the change God has done in your life, and for that I am grateful. You teach me to look at other people’s wounds and try to understand them before judging them. You show me to be patient with people I can barely stand. You show me how to love my enemies. You train me to be a woman after God’s heart. And for all these things, I thank you. I may not be showy with my affection, and vocal about loving and caring for you but believe me, I really do. Before, I always tell myself that I wouldn’t want to be like you. But now? I am proud to say that I want to be like you because truly, you have shown me things that I haven’t seen in you before. I love you.
To my dad, who tells corny dad jokes and passed those jokes to me, do you remember the times when mom and I would fight and I would always ALWAYS go to you, and tell you about what happened? And how you would tell me to just apologize to mom because she’s still my mother. And the days when I ask for things I want and you give it to me, no questions asked? Those days are something I treasure, you were always there for my homeworks with that horse drawing from 1st grade that I won’t forget, and the times when you were marupok to me and I would always get what I wanted. You now teach us to budget our money properly, you teach us to always put our needs before our wants first. You train us to be independent. You discipline us in a loving way and make us understand the reality of life. You have provided everything we need, and your wisdom never fails to amaze me. You have led us to devotions that can be applied in our lives, for that I am thankful. You are amazing. I love you dad!
I would also love to thank my parents’ dgroup who took the time and effort to organize this event. Thank you po for making this possible, I deeply appreciate the love you have given and shown to my parents, I pray that God may bless you ten folds.
And also, thank you to the people who took the time to attend this God orchestrated event. Thank you for coming to witness my parents get married again.
Mom, Dad, I hope you enjoy this wonderful day that God has blessed you with. I love you two!
